TR shouldn't have the lifetime contract that he apparently does. Accountability is lacking over at Target Field. That said, Gardenhire isn't the problem. The problem starts with ownership, which refuses to look outside the organization for innovation and new ideas.
Garza probably gets $75m over 5... Nolasco probably in the $13m a year range... If Twins were to get both (and they won't), and if Meyer came up and pitched well after the ASG, this team would be competitive.
That's more like it. OBP.
INRE, Rosario: Let's wait to have the facts come out before we play judge and jury. We're checking on it.
Arroyo doesn't change the Twins fundamental issue -- lack of strikeouts -- but he is better than pretty much everyone on the roster. It wouldn't be a terrible signing.
The report out of PR said, in Spanish, that he said the failed drug test came over some pills he took to get over an arm injury. Could be a mistake or could be a legitimate violation, we don't know yet. Either way, bad news for the Twins.
Look to other successful mid- and small-market teams -- the Rays, A's, Cardinals, etc. -- and hire people away. Find out what they do, implement it, and make it better with your own philosophies.
Perk wouldn't work in a starting rotation because he only throws two pitches. His changeup -- by his own admission -- is not good.
I like your thinking, but Phil is right
Right. If Twins get Garza + Arroyo, consider that a rock-solid offseason
JC Romero doesn't do anything for you?
MinnAbe -- power numbers are all relative. Mauer would have ranked among the best first basemen in OPS last year. He also ranked 3rd in doubles among ALL players when he hit the disabled list. Mauer probably hits 15-20 HRs at 1B with a league-leading AVG and OBP. Also, elite defensively at 1B most likely.
Joe Mauer will be a top-5 first baseman.
re: HRs... The Giants won the World Series two years ago despite hitting the fewest HRs in MLB. Pitching and OBP.
Mauer's swing is designed to hit line drives. He doesn't get the same backspin/loft that other hitters with loopier swings can generate. I'd be floored if we see another 28-homer season out of him again, especially with the move to Target Field.
Actually, the last 13 seasons, the team that has scored the most runs finished 1st or 2nd in HRs twice. They finished 1st or 2nd in OBP all 13 times. OBP > HRs.
Not sure anyone would watch a movie about this franchise right now
Although I heard they were the team originally contacted for Michael Lewis' book.
If Dozier can be the player he was for the second half, that's a helluva second baseman. Only improvement I see is if he cuts down his strikeouts and avoid a prolonged slump like the beginning of last year
Hard to say how much he'll improve. It's possible we saw what Dozier's standard performance will be last year. If he can be a 2.5- or 3-WAR second baseman for a few years, that's worth around $15 million year -- and he'll be paid far less.
Well, I was going to say Eddie Rosario... But....
Matt, that's mean-spirited.
Yeah, for everyone asking, if this suspension is legit, it kills Rosario's current
That's not to say you can't move him in the future, but his stock just plummeted for the moment
Probably someone like Homer Bailey or Jeff Samardzija... provided the Twins also throw in another player or two
