Welcome everyone! Had an informative chat with defensive line coach Andre Patterson today, but we've got some Jerome Simpson to talk about. Fire away questions
Who's got questions? Football or anything else about the Vikings you want to discuss
That's a big claim considering it sounded like the entire stadium got into it.
Clearly the loss of Adrian Peterson on the field will hurt the Vikings' chances moving forward, which means we could see Teddy Bridgewater even earlier. It also certainly helps Teddy's chances with every interception Cassel throws. Though the Saints have allowed the most passing yards through two weeks of any NFL team. We'll see what gives Sunday.
Def. coordinator George Edwards said today that he still didn't know if Greenway would play Sunday. He hasn't practiced yet this week, but he finished the game Sunday (week 2). I asked if Gerald Hodges would take his WLB spot if Greenway can't go and Edwards said he's working with a variety of players -- including Hodges -- in place of Greenway. Also mentioned Mike Mauti's name in some packages.
I'd say it's more likley Greenway plays than that he doesn't, but that's just a guess on my part
Re: Matt Kalil, he's struggled mightily this season and there's no knee injury to blame unlike 2013. It's concerning for not only a Top 5 draft pick, but for a Top 5 draft pick that has clearly regressed since his rookie season. That regression is the most worrisome part. Now, against the Saints he should have an easier time, though their 3-4 has similar aspects to the Patriots' front.
Cassel needs all the help he can get, and that means not worrying about getting harassed by a 6-5 Chandler Jones, like last week.
Norv Turner again defended Kalil today when I asked him if LT is becoming a concern. He said the circumstances of the NE game (with the Vikings trailing so much and needing to pass) allowed the Patriots to send more pressure toward the QB. I'm not buying it. I think to be a franchise left tackle you have to eliminate that pressure in all situations. Yes it would help if Cassel would have gotten the ball out quicker but this is becoming a real problem in my opini
Answered below. Would seem reasonable.
